Electrodepositing is the process used in electroplating, it is analogous to a galvanic cell acting in reverse. The metal to be electroplated along with another metal of a similar kind is placed in a container filled with one or more metal salts and is connected to an electrical circuit. The item to be plated is connected with the cathode (negative) and the other is connected with the anode (positive). When the electronic circuit is switched on a current passes through the circuit and metal ions in the solution take up excess electrons at the item to be plated. This results in a layer of metal quoting on the item, which is the electroplating.
The above operation may seem simple to perform but requires the manipulation of tremendous skill and timing to get the best result. The best of operators are trained and experienced for several years and are able to bring out the best in electro plating.
